After WWII, 93,000 people relocated from Japan to North Korea as part of a “Repatriation Project.” This number included nearly 1,800 Japanese wives of Koreans. At the time, the Japanese media touted North Korea as a “Paradise on Earth”, yet the project was actually a de facto “abandonment” program. The women were forgotten and overshadowed by stories of Japanese people being abducted by North Korean agents. This program focuses on the families that have been separated for over 50 years.
